Dr. Nikolaos Trakos MD, PhD, is specialized in Eyelid, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery.

    He was born in Athens and graduated from Medical School of University of Patras, Greece. He was elective student in Medical School of Cambridge, UK, and started his research activities in Lund University, Sweden. He obtained the diploma of Advanced Trauma Life Support from the American College of Surgeons.

    He was specialized in Ophthalmology at University Eye Clinic of Ioannina and he continued his second part of residency in England. He organized an extensive clinic-laboratory research program in secondary cataract (Posterior Capsule Opacification in a rabbit model) obtaining his PhD in University of Ioannina.

     He completed three fellowship programs in Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in UK. His main Fellowship program was at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He continued his training in centres of USA, such as Mayo Clinic and UCLA, Los Angeles. His work in Eyelid, Lacrimal and Orbital diseases is equally oriented in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

    He returned in Greece in 2007 importing pioneered endoscopic techniques taking over as the Director of Oculoplastic Department in various private Ophthalmologic Centres in Athens.

     Currently Dr. Nikolaos Trakos is the Director of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Department (Eyelids, Lacrimal and Orbital Department) in “Hygeia Hospital” Athens, Greece.

    He is a Member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Instructor of Oculoplastics at the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also Secretary and Congress President of the International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye.

    He is a contributing author to the books “Aesthetic Oculofacial Rejuvenation” and has translated the book “Manual of Eyelid Systematic Surgery” by Richard Collin in Greek.

   Every year he is invited in round tables and international conferences and has plenty of publications and lectures.

   The most modern techniques are applied by Dr. Trakos in interventions such as; blepharoplasties, eyelid ptosis, eyelid malpositions i.e. ectropion and entropion, botox for blepharospasm, management of facial nerve palsy, orbital tumors, orbital fractures, reconstruction of anophthalmic socket, Endoscopic Endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy for management of tearing, management of dry eye syndrome, minimally invasive techniques in orbital decompressions for thyroid eye disease and exophthalmos, eyelid tumor excision and reconstruction, management of lower eyelid bags and oculo-facial rejuvenation with Botox and Fillers.
